A few days ago I made a powerful choice. On my morning walk I tuned into my inner dialogue and did something different. I started to affirm positive things I wanted in my life, regardless of whether they were currently present or not. Guess what? I started to feel different. I felt GOOD.
A little backstory
The last few weeks I’ve been having deep conversations with friends all over the world about the current state of affairs and what it means. Many of the people in my close circle are calm, collected and open minded about what is to come. In some ways it feels like the many years of self enquiry have prepared us for exactly these uncertain times. If you’re reading this I expect you feel the same way.
Yet despite all my ‘knowledge’ I’d found myself getting sucked down into a dark hole and my energy was feeling drained, scattered and anxious. Unsurprising, the media hysteria, fake news and social media onslaught was taking its toll. I was buying into the story being sold, and actively deciding to consume it.
Then a switch flicked as I was speaking to one of my best friends about all things ‘love’. I shared with her that I’d been reflecting and realised that being in love (romantic love that is) has nothing to do with another person. Love is a frequency. So, during my walk I decided to choose to feel this frequency instead and it WORKED. Something big shifted, a weight had gone and lightness had entered my body and mind.
Given what I ‘do’ for a job I felt like I should know this already, yet as the evolving human that I am, I regularly lapse into moments of unconsciousness and head off down the rabbit hole of my emotions and stories. This is necessary in order to find the lessons in navigating back and sharing them with others, hence I’m sharing with you here. Knowing something at the mental level, and actually embodying it are different things. When learning to embody something we often get off track so we return again, with new levels of understanding. It’s a bit like learning to walk!
The Scale of Consciousness
For those who aren’t familiar I practise a few different healing modalities and one is called The Spiral which includes working with the Scale of Consciousness (SOC). The SOC is a form of emotional measurement from the book Power v’s Force written by Dr David Hawkins. It shows the different frequencies related to different types of emotion, some being high frequency and others being low frequency. There is a scale and when you start to analyse it, intuitively you get the feeling that it makes sense.
Shame, guilt, and fear all sit at the bottom of the scale, comprising the lower vibrational frequencies. These states feel heavy and uncomfortable in our bodies, like we’re literally being weighed down. We contract and become small, and often with the experience of paralysis. They also drive us to withdraw from connection with the world and others, and become frightened or mistrusting. When we experience these emotions it changes our view of the world, and results in our perception that we are under threat and separate from life. As you can probably feel, this is the prevailing consciousness on earth at this time.
Peace, joy and love on the other hand are at the higher end of the spectrum. They are the beautiful states that most of us associate with happiness and feel light, generous, abundant and playful. We feel expansive and connected to ourselves, with others and to life. We feel present, grateful and a sense of peace knowing that ‘all is well’ in the world. As you might expect it's difficult to hold these frequencies at this time because of what is happening all around us.
So why is this important?
Because I believe we are co-creating our reality here on Earth. What we collectively believe, feel and focus on inevitably comes to pass. Most of us caught up in the illusion of ‘time’ don’t see the direct connection between cause and effect which exists at every level of existence. If we focus on fear, then guess that we’ll get? More fear. What if there are millions (if not billions…) of people feeling the SAME thing? You get the idea.
In consuming media, I was getting caught up in the collective wave of panic, and it began to consume me. As a society that mainly lives ‘in our heads’ this is a dangerous position to be in, as your mind can be either a master or a servant. Without conscious awareness and management, your mind is unlikely to be serving you well at this time. It could even be sabotaging you, and you are unwittingly feeding the negative cycle.
Furthermore, our physical bodies give us the illusion that we are separate, but again we are not. Instead we are a collection of vibrations and waves that appear outwardly as solid. For those who don’t believe in ‘energy’, I suppose you’ve never had the feeling of bad vibes from someone either? Whether you actually ‘feel’ it or not, our human biology is tuned to pick up on the smallest and most subtle details of our environment. It’s just that, with our eyes transfixed on electronic screens, we are numb to the experience of any kind of sensation.
We are taking our cues from external sources and this IS creating a reaction in our bodies, whether we feel it or not. The opposite is also true, in being SUPER sensitive, we withdraw because the level of sensation is overwhelming and impossible to cope with. Either way it often results in using other methods to ensure we are properly numb - alcohol, drugs, gaming, food, porn, binge-watching netflix are just a few examples. The human race has invented an extraordinary number of measures to avoid, distract, numb and sedate our experience and feelings. Heaven forbid, we even invented ‘virtual reality’ as a method of escape from the chaos we’ve created!
Choosing to be different
Why am I saying this and what does this mean? The truth is our external environment has a significant impact on how we feel internally. Yet, as I did on my walk I believe we each have the opportunity to play our part and to CHOOSE something different. To consciously create our current and future reality by deciding what we consume and how we choose to feel about things. Our perception IS our reality and we have the potential to influence it greatly.
You may be aware of the collective purging of low frequency energies (including fear) that is happening across the world at this time. This is necessary in order to heal, integrate and transcend it, therefore my invitation is to let your emotional energy flow freely. Allow yourself to feel the fear fully. When you do, you’ll realise it is an illusion and has no power over you. It’s a sensation that you create a story around, and believe your own story. This is true with all emotions, it’s the meaning you give it that either frees you or keeps you stuck. The truth is it’s an energetic resonance that you’re experiencing, yet the mind tries to over-rationalise everything in order to understand. This too shall pass, and the deeper you breathe, the faster this will occur. Here is where your breath is key, because it’s the ultimate integration tool. The resistance to being connected to our body and resistance to actually ‘feeling’ is what creates the pain we experience. If you can make space to feel and breathe the pain will be considerably reduced and you will emerge liberated on the other side.
Are you ready to face the truth?
Here’s the hard truth - You might not like it, but the only way out of this mess is through it. Sometimes the truth is ugly and it’s about time we decided to grow up and actually face it. That means feeling the uncomfortable stuff. If you can’t do that, then you’ll never get to the good stuff either. Whilst the unknown can be a scary prospect, holding on is just as uncomfortable. You’ll probably end up emotionally constipated and/or full of sh*t.
When we allow our emotions to flow, they change and transmute. Our energy is liberated and we move up the scale of consciousness. We feel lighter, more connected and energised. It’s like putting down the boulder you’ve been carrying. This is the power we all have within us - to liberate our consciousness and experience life beyond what we are being fed. Breathwork is one powerful way to do that. Guarding your thoughts and media consumption is another. Deciding for yourself how you wish to feel is also within your control.
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” - Henry Ford.
Only you can make the decision to open and flow, or contract and stagnate. The decision you make WILL affect the quality of your life, whether you like it or not. That’s how this reality works, as I expect you’re beginning to understand (if you don’t already know).
In the wise words of Winston Churchill - “We are still masters of our fate. We are still captains of our souls.”
It takes a brave captain to ride stormy seas. Ultimately it’s your decision whether you sink or swim.
What are you choosing - love or fear?
Breathe the change you want to see in the world.
