How much of your time is spent telling yourself you’re wrong / bad / too much / not enough / stupid / weird / illogical etc?
How often do you feel that you need to ‘adjust’ yourself in some way to comply or fit in?
Every so often?
Minute by minute?
If you’re honest it’s probably between the last two. I’ve noticed this in myself recently.
In a world where we are told there are ‘certain ways of doing things’ to get results, we try to fit ourselves into pre-made moulds to keep the peace or to get the results.
Last time you checked, how is that working for you?
Do you feel happy and fulfilled, knowing that you are being ALL of you?
Probably not, and the same goes for me.
I question and doubt. I forget who the hell I am. I pigeon hole what I must be / do to get somewhere - anywhere!
Every time I do so I feel a contraction in my whole being. Like a part of me is not acceptable, a weakness or a failure. I feel less than and dim my light. I tone myself down to ‘play the part’ expected of me. With family, friends, random strangers in the street. Managing expectations, staying below the radar and keeping supposedly ‘safe’.
How is it logical that to be all of me, and do things my way is not ‘safe’? This doesn’t make sense, but then some of these funky beliefs I hold don’t .
The root is that we live in societies / families / hierarchies where it is not safe to be all of who we are/ were. Especially when it comes to being a child.
We got told -
Don’t be too loud
Don’t make a fuss
You can’t do that
Be this - not that
This is our expectation
You’re breaking the rules and you willl be punished
Emotional expression is not welcome here.
The list goes on and on.
The message we received was - If you’re like X you will be loved. If you’re not, we will withdraw our love and punish you. Sounds harsh but true.
With this in mind is it any surprise we have a difficult time being ourselves? Honestly, what other option did you have? Now in adult life you’re stuck in the same construct that kept you ‘safe’. The problem is that it also keeps you from your brilliance and magic, and fundamentally from knowing who you REALLY are.
Truth is - you’re not all of these limitations. God doesn’t want you to hold back. But you’ve learned like a good child to do what you’re told.
Now is the time to unravel the chains that bind you and bring your whole self to life. I can’t promise it will be without challenge, but I do know you’ll absolutely LOVE the result.
After all, who are you living for? All of you is not only necessary, it is required. Borrow this belief. Try it on for size. See what happens when you allow yourself to step outside the cramped little box and truly live for a change.
Breathe the change you wish to see in the world.
P.S. If you're ready to create a new empowering story for yourself, I have a couple of opportunities coming up.
I'll be launching a second round of the Breathwork Detox - a group programme to reset you back to Soul! Message me to get first dibs and an early bird discount when it launches.
